Directamente desde Bélgica, les presentamos la agrupación The Black Tartan Clan, banda de celtic punk que amablemente nos concedió una entrevista. Igual, la banda está por presentar su trabajo más reciente Don’t walk alone el cual estará listo para inicio de enero.

IP: Hola, por favor proporcione una breve biografía sobre su banda
TBTC: The Black Tartan Clan comenzó en 2008. Somos una banda de 6 hombres que usamos falda escocesa y tocamos punk de rock celta desde Bélgica. Combinamos el punk rock melódico con instrumentos tradicionales (gaita serrana, tambor de marcha, banjo) y esto nos da nuestro propio sonido. Grupos comparables son Dropkick Murphys y Real McKenzies.

IP: Miembros de la banda

IP: ¿Consideras que es difícil tocar con gaitas?
TBTC: Al principio sí, porque nos limitábamos a hacer canciones en torno a las (únicas) 7 notas de una gaita serrana. Pero ahora, tenemos más de ella. También es difícil de combinar instrumentos acústicos y eléctricos cuando tocamos en vivo, es una lucha constante para ser escuchados.

IP: Influencias
TBTC: Dropkick Murphys, Real McKenzies.

IP: Cuéntanos de su discografía, ¿tienen algún un sentimiento especial por alguno de sus discos?

TBTC: Boots, kilts & pipes (2009): nuestra primera grabación, estamos muy orgullosos. Suena muy crudo y (street)punk rock.

The loyal men (2010): disco doble, suena mucho más pulido.

Standing strong (EP 2012): de regreso al streetpunk.

Don’t walk alone (2013): sonará nuevamente más punk rock y más ‘Irlandés’ (gracias al banjo)

IP: ¿Están de gira en este momento?
TBTC: En estos momentos estamos grabando nuestro nuevo disco (Don’t walk alone), por lo que los conciertos serán en 2013.

IP: ¿Es posible realizar un concierto de su banda en  Centroamérica?
TBTC: No tenemos contacto con agencias americanas todavía y es algo complicado por el momento poder organizarnos, así que no hay planes inmediatos.

IP: ¿La mejor experiencia en un concierto?
TBTC: Realmente, todos nuestros conciertos. Cuando tocamos en lugares pequeños se tiene más contacto con el público. En los grandes festivales tenemos una gran inyección de adrenalina! Tenemos siempre una gran cantidad de fans que nos siguen a todas partes (también usan faldas escocesas).

IP: Planes Futuros
TBTC: Tocar más en otros países de toda Europa. Ahora tenemos contacto con una agencia holandesa que nos puede conseguir algunos conciertos interesantes. También vamos a lanzar un nuevo videoclip en diciembre de 2012. Y, por supuesto, el nuevo CD completo ‘Don’t walk alone‘ que se estrenará a partir de ¡2013!

IP: ¿Están enfocados 100% en la banda o tiene algún otro trabajo?
TBTC: Todos tenemos otros trabajos, pero todo el tiempo libre y las vacaciones van a la banda.

IP:  ¿Les gusta el fútbol? ¿Equipo favorito?
TBTC: Escocia!

IP: ¿Conocen alguna banda de latinoamerica?
TBTC: No, no hay mucha información que nos llega aquí, la radio y televisión se centran más en las bandas de Norte América. Gracias a las redes sociales como Facebook, también encontramos que hay un montón de gente que les gusta el rock celta en América Latina también!

IP: Mensaje Final
TBTC: Te damos gracias por esta entrevista. Siempre nos sorprende que exista tanto interés de otros países en una ¡pequeña banda belga!

The Black Tartan Clan (Belgium)

IP: Hi, please provide us a short bio about your band
TBTC: The Black Tartan Clan started in 2008. We are a kilted, 6-man Celtic punk rock band from Belgium. We combine melodic punk rock with traditional instruments (highland bagpipes, marching snare, banjo) and this gives us our own sound. Comparable bands are Dropkick Murphys and Real McKenzies.

IP: Members of the band

IP: Do you consider is hard to play using pipes?
TBTC: In the beginning yes, because we were restricted to make songs around the (only) 7 notes of a highland bagpipe. But now, we get the hang of it. It’s also hard to combine acoustic and electric instruments when we play live, it’s a constant struggle to be heard.

IP: What about your discography, do u have a special feeling for any of your records??

 

TBTC: Boots, kilts & pipes (2009): our first recording, very proud of it. Sounds raw and very (street) punk rock.

The loyal men (2010): double cd, sounds more polished.

Standing strong (EP 2012): back to streetpunk.

Don’t walk alone (2013): will sound more punk rock again + more ‘Irish’ (thanks to the banjo)

IP: Are touring right now? maybe later?
TBTC: We are currently recording our new cd (Don’t walk alone), so concerts will be for 2013.

IP: how much will be set a concert with you in central america?
TBTC: We don’t have contact with american booking agencies yet and it’s a bit too far to organise ourselves, so no immediate plans.

IP: Your best experience playing in a concert?
TBTC: All our concerts really. When we play in small venues we have more contact with the public. Bigger festivals give us an adrenaline injection! We have always a great amount of fans that follow us everywhere (also wearing kilts!).

IP: Future Plans
TBTC: Play more in other countries all over Europe. We now have contact with a dutch booking agency that might get us some nice concerts. We will also release a new videoclip in december 2012. And of course, the new full cd ‘Don’t walk alone’ will be released begin 2013!

IP: Are focused 100% in the band or you have any other jobs??
TBTC: We all have other jobs but all free time and holidays go to the band.

IP:  Do you like soccer? if so, favorite team?
TBTC: Scotland!

IP: Do you know any band from latin america?
TBTC: No, there’s not much that reaches us here, radio and tv are more focused on North American bands. Thanks to social media like Facebook, we also found that there are lots of people into Celtic rock in Latin America too!
